At the recent Plymouth to Salisbury, Massachusetts Area Committee Meeting, Mr. Brian House, President and CEO of Moran Environmental Recovery, LLC (MER), participated as a speaker with other industry and subject matter experts to discuss the new Non-Floating Oil (NFO) requirements and classifications. Representatives from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), United States Coast Guard (USCG), and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) all discussed how their organization would be impacted by a NFO event, and what their response would be. Included in the NOAA presentation, were members from the University of New Hampshire that have been working under the support of NOAA, and Mr. Steve Lehmann to better understand how NFO’s react during the clean-up and removal process. Mr. House represented the oil spill industry, and discussed the challenges an NFO event can have, yet also provided some detailed and successful tactics that have been used. Other topics discussed were OSRO Guidelines by the USCG, and MADEP Ethanol Updates.
